3 Steps to reequip the car part 2

Step 2: select the wheel hub with appropriate data

After determining the purpose of refitting and selecting the tire to be used, the next step is to select the wheel hub with appropriate data. For this part, you need to understand the meaning of the following parameters:

Diameter

This is what we usually call the wheel hub size, in inches. This part only needs to match the size of your tire. For example, for 265 / 65r17 tire, you need to select the corresponding 17 inch wheel hub.

width

The wheel hub width, also known as the J value, mainly refers to the distance between the flanges on both sides of the wheel hub. This data directly affects the width of the available tire. If the difference is too large, it is likely that the most vulnerable sidewall of the tire will be directly exposed. However, if you are deliberately pursuing this effect, that is another matter.

Offset

This concept comes from the German einpresstiefe (ET for short), which literally means "pressing depth". Specifically refers to the deviation between the hub installed section and the center line of the wheel rim, in mm, which is divided into positive, zero and negative values.

It is necessary to pay more attention to this part of data when selecting the corresponding products. Et value determines whether the wheel hub interferes with the vehicle lining and fender. If the negative value is too large, it may also increase the load on the axle shaft and steering gear due to too long torque lever.

At the same time, it is also necessary to consider the influence of ET value on the brake during the refitting process. If the four piston or even six piston brake is to be replaced, the space provided by the wheel hub should be increased with the increase of brake calipers, otherwise the brake calipers will rub against the wheel hub. It should be noted here that the greater the ET value of the hub, the greater the space inside the hub.

Hole spacing

That is to say "PCD", the unit is mm. Refers to the diameter between the fixing bolts in the center of the hub. For example, 5x110 means that the PCD of this hub is 112mm, and there are 5 bolts in the hole.

In terms of safety, it is recommended to select the same product as the original data for refitting. Any converter may have potential safety hazard.

Central hole

The center hole is used to fix and connect with the vehicle, which is the position of the center of the wheel hub and the concentric circle of the wheel hub. The diameter of this position will directly affect whether the hub is in line with the geometric center. If the center hole is too large, the center reducer ring is used to achieve perfect fit. (of course, we don't recommend it either.)

Most of the above data can be directly applied to the original factory specifications to select, but J value and et value need to be adjusted according to your own needs. In addition, for some friends who want to replace the larger wheel hub than the original factory size, they have to make certain trade-offs in fuel consumption and weight.
