Differences between single and multi piece forged wheels

The influence of the wheel hub on the vehicle is not only the power and chassis part, but also the appearance part, that is, whether the shape is good or not is also very important.

Therefore, how to make the hub have the performance essence and gorgeous appearance at the same time is the object that the hub brand needs to consider at the same time. Also because of this, in addition to the common single-chip hub, with the needs of the players, the multi chip hub with high-end flavor of hub appearance has begun to appear.

In a literal sense, the so-called single wheel hub means that the wheel hub is made of a single structure. In contrast, the two-piece or three-piece wheel hub means a combination of two or three parts. For example, the rim part of the wheel hub and the central plate area are divided into two or three independent parts, which are then combined and formed by welding or screw fixation.

What is the difference between the multi disc hub and the single disc wheel? In fact, the advantage of the single-piece hub is that the process items are relatively small (but not simple), and the weight is light, and the cost can also be suppressed relatively low; as shown in the figure below, the rim and spoke are integrally forged.

The biggest advantage of the multi plate hub is the variability of the appearance. Because the rim part and the center plate are composed of two different parts, each part can be made of different materials or processes, such as forging rim + center plate of casting material, or combination of the rim part of magnesium aluminum alloy + center plate of aluminum and other materials. Another example is shown in the figure below. By customizing the rims (left) with ancient copper color matching and the center plate (right) with low-pressure casting, multiple combinations can create a retro style with advantages in strength or weight. However, the relative price of this kind of hub will be higher than that of the single-piece hub.
